Every website owner wants to be on top of Google search results. To do that, you need to optimize your website for Google. Search engine optimization requires continuous improvements in your website. Google being more intelligent than any other search engines, uses  a trickier method to determine top rankings. Google loves websites that are updated continually with fresh and relevant content. If you think a website is simply putting some content and put it online and you will get top ranking, you are without doubt doing a big mistake.

Keywords and Key Phrases
Google looks for keywords and key phrases when assessing a website.  For example, if a visitor is looking for ‘web design’ Google will show up websites that have the keyword and phrases containing ‘web design’ or relevant. So when optimizing your web page, be sure to include keywords and phrases in your content. Beware not to stuff your page with keywords by repeating them several times. This is known as keyword stuffing.

The Title Tag
The title tag needs to be  a unique tag on a page. It is found on the browser’s title bar. An example of a title tag could be as follows:

Google in its search listings will display up to 66 characters of a title tag, cropping to complete words. For example, the following title is exactly 68 characters, so Google leaves off the last word in the title when displaying the website in its search results:

Anchor Text
Anchor text is the hyperlinked text on a web page. It is the words you click on when you click a link. Here's an example, web design services, in which "web design services" is the anchor text. The anchor text gives the visitors useful information about the content of the page you're linking to. Google is generous with its link limits saying that no more than 100 links should ever appear on a web page. Always use keywords relevant to the page you are linking to. Avoid words like ‘click here’ when linking.

Header Tags
The <h1> to <h6> tags are used to define HTML headings. <h1> defines the largest heading and <h6> defines the smallest heading. These headers tell Google what the purpose of the page is. Try to use it whenever possible. Always be sure to make your heading tags highly relevant to the content on that page and not too spammy, either.

Quality Content
Google is always looking for quality and fresh content. Google wants when the visitors browser through its listings, they are happy with the websites they click to visit. So if you have duplicate content or badly written articles, you are not helping Google. So how you can expect to have good rankings for poor stuffs you provide. Make sure to follow Google guidelines, or it will blacklist your domain and not link to it at all.
